Christmas in the City
Christmas is, without a doubt, the most wonderful time of the year - a time of joy, of gift-giving, of being with loved ones.
It is extra special this year because most of us will be celebrating Christmas in the Territory. There will be plenty of festive fun throughout Darwin – everything from special events and activities to shopping and dining out.
Darwin City has a packed program to celebrate Christmas. The Christmas lights in Smith Street Mall will be turned on at 5pm on Friday, December 4. This has been a great family favourite for decades. Don’t miss the Darwin City Brass Band and Carols in the Mall at 10-11am every Saturday from December 5-19.
Santa has taken time out from delivering presents to all the children who have been good to set up some fun spaces in the Mall - including a Christmas tunnel with exciting rooms for the young and young at heart to explore at the Activate Darwin Hub. And it’s where kids can write a letter to Santa and post it.
The City of Darwin’s Santa Village is open from 9.30am–11am and 11.30am-1pm Monday–Saturday throughout December until Christmas Eve and also includes Fun in the Parks, on each day from 9.30am - 1pm.
Other Christmas activities in the city centre include a 20 percent off shopping night with bubbly at Pink Hill boutique; a cocktail master class at Stone House Wine Bar & Kitchen; an affordable art fair at Karen Brown Fine Art Gallery; a Christmas family portrait night at Darwin Camera House; a champagne and shop evening in the Star Village; a shopping spree on Knuckey Street; and Christmas storytime at The Bookshop.
The fun doesn’t stop at Smith Street Mall – Cullen Bay and the Waterfront will also be celebrating the magic of Christmas. The Waterfront is so eager to start celebrating that the Christmas Wonderland will light up at 6pm on Friday, November 27. Santa will be on his podium in his magical grotto next to Surf Dive n Ski shop from 6-8pm from Friday, 11 December-Sunday, 13 December; 6-8pm from Friday, 18 December-Sunday, 20 December; and 5-8pm from Monday, 21 December-Thursday, 24 December.
The Christmas lights will be turned on at Cullen Bay at 7.30pm on December 1. There will be a Family Christmas in the Park with Santa from 5.30-7.30pm on December 19.
