The Darwin Kite Festival
Activate Darwin presents Darwin’s first ever Kite Festival!
On Sunday 24 September at 2pm the skies at Cullen Bay will be filled with hundreds of colourful and mesmerising kites, kite sizes range from up to 30m long, and include some familiar Territory icons.
The day will be filled with excitement as professional kite flyers perform stunt shows every hour and the Darwin Kite Surfing community combine the skies with the seas.
It’s not just the skies which are packed full of action, with kids activities on throughout the day including kite decorating classes, jumping castles, face painting, roving entertainment, food and drinks and so much more!
The public are encouraged to bring their own kites to fly in the ‘locals fly zone’. Don’t have your own kite? We’ve got you covered! Come down early and grab one of the limited edition Darwin Kite Festival X Activate Darwin official kites to decorate and fly yourselves.

Where can I park?
Finding a car park at Cullen Bay can be tricky on weekends, so we have arranged an additional overflow car park at the top of Cullen Bay hill with regular shuttle buses running to pick-up and drop off attendees.
What food will be available?
As well as the usual restaurants and cafe's who trade permanently at Cullen Bay, there will also be a range of food trucks from carnival themed snacks to more substantial options.
What should I bring?
Although some lounging areas will be available on the day, we recommend bringing your own pinic rugs and camping chairs. We also recommend bringing your hat, sunscreen and water bottles.
Please note: marquees, tents and other shade structures which will obstruct other attendees views will not be allowed.
Do I need my own kite?
The Cullen Bay skies will be filled with hundreds of large and colourful kites which will be flown by professional kite flyers. So although you can bring your own kite to fly in the public flying zone, it's not necessary to enjoy the day!
