Chan Lawns

The Chan Building was built right in the centre of Darwin City in 1906, and was mainly used as office blocks.

As Darwin City grew and the way locals moved through the city changed, the need for old concrete office buildings decreased and the need for green, open spaces increased.

In 2020 the Chan Building was demolished as part of the Civic and State Square Revitalisation, and in it's place remained a beautiful large area for the entire community to enjoy.

Many community events have since been held on what's now known as "Chan Lawns", including the popular Darwin International Laksa Festival Finale, Darwin Festival events and industry award nights.
