State Square Native Garden and Park
Before the Darwin City Deal, this beautiful native garden used to be a cement carpark on the edge of Darwin City.
Now, the State Square Native Garden and Underground Car Park, which provides 450 car parks, boasts a native garden and pathways linking to other locations within the Civic and State Square Precinct.
The project involved relocating 300 existing heat-generating surface car parks underground to unlock further cool green spaces for the whole community.
The underground car park features public parking, six electric charging stations and bike rack facilities over three levels. The car park is also used as a Public Cyclone Shelter in an emergency.
The 90 bay parliamentary car park was developed into landscaped garden and lawns to complement the Chan Lawns and native garden on top of the State Square Underground Car Park, contributing to cooling, greening and activating the Civic and State Square Precinct.
