Darwin’s Hidden Restaurants and Cafes
Some of Darwin’s best restaurants, shops and takeaway-style eateries are tucked away in arcades or laneways.
Sari Rasa is a popular favourite. Open for lunch and inside Arafura Plaza on Cavenagh Street, they serve delicious Indonesian cuisine with a smile. Be sure to get there early because those in the know love a good home cooked curry or sate! If you can’t make it for lunch head to Mindil Beach Markets where you’ll see them making satays like no other.
Another long running Darwin institution is Melissa’s Take Away inside West Lane Arcade. Open early for brekkie and coffee up until lunch, they serve a variety of dishes from an eggs benny to yiros, there's something for everyone. Looking for something on the go? Their variety of to-go options are endless, and so are their sandwiches! With a sandwich bar stocked with fresh ingredients, there are infinite creations to be experienced.
Open early until late, Mad Snake Café Darwin is all about pop culture and great coffee. On Austin Lane look for the tree mural and array of plants to experience this niche and funky café. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook for a program including Dungeons & Dragons sessions, movie screenings, games nights and much more.
