Ready to discover Darwin’s fascinating and unique history?  Take a trip back in time and prepare to be immersed in the events of WWII by walking to nearly all of Darwin’s greatest historical attractions.  Enjoy both the history and how this has shaped Darwin into what it is today, all while experiencing great coffee and even better food.

Start the morning off with a coffee and breakfast at the Waterfront.  Choose from an array of cafes and restaurants that overlook the lagoon and vast lawns.  After a relaxing start to the day, head across to the WWII Oil Storage Tunnels where you will experience beautiful photographs and displays right within the tunnels.

Continue on to Bicentennial Park on the Esplanade via the Sky Bridge.  Here you will see the picturesque Darwin Cenotaph War Memorial commemorating Australian men and women who have served the country in conflicts.  The memorial overlooks the water, topping it off as a ‘must see’ in Darwin.  Follow the nicely shaded path up through the park to multiple other memorials, including the ANZAC Centenary Plaque and the USS Peary Memorial.  Along the Esplanade are an assortment of restaurants and cafes to pick from.  However, Lyon’s Cottage is an excellent place to eat and includes a piece of its own history; it was built as housing for engineers working on the telegraph cable between Australia and UK.

If you want to continue on with looking at Darwin’s history, head up to the Darwin Military Museum at East Point and delve into the events of the bombing of Darwin through Military Memorabilia and multimedia exhibits.
