Lake Alexander is a man-made lake that provides safe swimming throughout the year, and is a popular picnic and barbecue stop. Lake Alexander is part of Darwin's East Point Reserve, and is set on a peninsular of land overlooking Beagle Gulf. During the dry season, set off and explore the many walking and cycling paths, or enjoy a relaxing picnic on the lawns (picnic tables are also available). A rest on a picnic rug is just the thing after a busy day exploring downtown Darwin. Bring your hamper, as most areas have free barbecue facilities.
