Top End Street Art among Australia’s best

Darwin and Katherine’s street art has been announced as finalists in the Australian Street Art Awards.

The Big Rivers Portrait Series which features outdoor portraits of prominent individuals who helped forge the Big River region has been named a finalist in the Best Street Art Trail and Best Street Art Tour categories.

Alongside Katherine, Darwin has also been recognised for its street art in several categories including Best Monument or Memorial, Best Street Art Laneway and Best External Mural.

The Darwin Street Art Festival and Big Rivers Portrait Series are funded by the Northern Territory Government and delivered by Activate Territory, Katherine Regional Arts and Proper Creative.

Proper Creative Director, David Collins said that it was brilliant to see both Darwin and Katherine recognised by the awards.

“Street art provides opportunities for our local artists to grow and expand their skills,” Mr Collins said.

“It’s a privilege for Proper Creative to be able to support regional areas and partner with organisations like Katherine Regional Arts and the Northern Territory Government to paint murals across the Territory.”

Winners of the Australian Street Art Awards will be announced on Friday, 4 March at the Art of Attraction Summit.
